      House Hold Quick Fixes


    Curd - 

To set the curd in a shorter time, put a fresh whole green chilli in warm milk when setting it to curdle.
If the curd set, is sour, put it all in a muslin cloth and let drain the liquid. Remainder will be yummy curd.


To  avoid smell of cabbage while cooking:

Keep a piece of bread on the cabbage in the vessel while cooking.

Coffee storage-
Put few rice grains in the coffee jar. This way you will avoid coffee beans from becoming sticky.

Foul Odour of the Fridge-
1 cup of water+ 1 tbsp soda bicarb+ few drops of lime juice. Dip a cloth in this mixture and wipe off.
Metal -
To avoid rusting of any sort of metal, coat a thin layer of transparent varnish over them.


To  skin sweet potatoes quickly :

Soak in cold  water immediately after boiling.

Preserve Leather-
Rub mustard oil with cotton cloth onto the leather.
Spilled Oil/Ghee -
  • Sprinkle wheat flour on the spilled oil/ ghee on the floor and then wipe it clean with a cloth.
  • For oil stains on clothes, sprinkle some talcum powder instantly and let it be there for sometime. It will soak away all the oil and then you may wash it regularly.
Silver Shine -
To clean all your silver ware, dip them in left over water after boiling potatoes. After soaking for a while, clean them with an old tooth brush with toothpaste powder ( remember toothpaste powder which was used in older times when these colgates/ closeups were not that popular).
To keep your expensive footwear in shape, roll an old paper and insert it through the shoe. It will maintain the shape of the shoe.
Heavily embroidered dresses-
To store your heavily embroidered/ embellishes dresses/ suits/saris, hang them in plastic/satin cloth hangers (they will prevent from shoulders to droop and also rust stains which are common with metal hangers in long term) and put over them big plastic covers.
Remember, not to store your clothes in news papers, else you will see the black print of the paper appear on clothes in long run.
Remove Microwave Odour-
Microwave 2 red roses on high for a min.
Burnt Rice-
If rice get burnt while cooking, put a slice of bread to absorb the smell.
Rusted Utensils-
Rub mustard oil to prevent rusting
Flower vase odour-
Place charcoal in the flower vase to prevent odour.
Put transparent nail paint to avoid jewellery from turning black.
Hot water-
To retain hotness and heat of water add a pinch of salt to water.
Tongue Burn-
Rub sugar if tongue is burnt.


To  avoid tears while cutting onions:

  •  Chew gum
  • Another option is to keep the onion in freezer for sometime prior to cutting.
Freshen Sesame oil-
Add a lump of jaggery for freshness of sesame oil.
Put a bayleaf in the flour to avoid moisture.
Cut banana in water along with curd to prevent blackening.
Photos if stuck together, remove them with dryer.
To avoid dampness in salt, add a few grains of rice.
To  boil potatoes quickly: 

Skin one  potato from one side only before boiling.

Stains in bottle-

Add 1 tsp salt and then wash the bottle.
Cleaning Brass-
  •  Wheat flour+ vinegar. Smear it with this and then clean.

  • Mix tamarind and vim to clean.
Glue/Gum Stains on Glass-

Rub nail polish remover.

To  make the mirror shine:

Clean mirror with spirit.

Crisp Biscuits-
To keep biscuits crisp longer, store them in blotting paper.
Coffee Stains-
Wash cloth in luke warm soapy water. Rub glycerine. Leave for 1 hr and wash again with soap.
To make candle burn and last longer, rub salt on the wick.
To keep buttons from dropping off, dab a drop of clear nail polish onto the thread to secure the buttons. This will harden and make it more difficult for the thread to break off.
Ants Problem:

  • Ants hate cucumbers. Keep the skin of cucumbers near the place or ant hole.

  •  Make a paste of DDT+ 2 tbsp talcum powder+ 1/2 tsp water. Put it on where they visit frequently.
To get rid of mice or rats :

Sprinkle black pepper in places where you find mice or rats. They will run away.

To  get pure and clean ice :
Boil water  first before freezing.

To  get maximum juice out of lemons :

Soak lemons in hot water for one hour, and then juice them.
More yellow the lemon is, more Vit C it contains. Round lemons have more juice than oblongs. 
To clean a toilet:
Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the ‘real thing’ sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china. 

To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: 
  • Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds or

  • Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.
 To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: 

Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble
away the corrosion.
To loosen a rusted bolt: 

Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes. 
Kurry Leaves - 
To preserve curry leaves, wash the leaves, dry them, microwave them for 2-3 min and then powder them in a mixie. Store this powder and use it as tempering as it gives a lovely flavour and also helps preserve them for a longer time.
Brinjals - 
To avoid eggplant from blackening, rub it with lemon/vinegar. 
Shower -
To get rid of build up in the shower, leave a baggy of vinegar on the shower head overnight and it will clean everything without work.  
Vacuum -
Put a stocking on the end of vacuum to find tiny stuff like earings.

Furniture -
Mosquito - 
camphor. 50 grams
It should last for a month or more.

take any small bowl , put one camphor tablet in it. fill it with water . 
normal water will do.
put an any corner of your room.
you can see immediate effect .if there were any mosquitoes they will go away.

to make more effective,crush camphor slightly.
if room is big, use two bowls with same process.
you can change water after 2 days. use old water it to wipe floor . 
  •  Consumption of ajwain + gur(jaggery) to relieve of all bodily problems.
  •  intake of this juice daily has shown positive results. Carrot juice+cucumber juice+bitter gourd juice.
